
Stop Your Workshop Heaters from Dying Early
If you’ve ever run a workshop, you know the environment is brutal. You’ve got oil mist floating in the air, humidity creeping in from the doors, and dust settling on everything. It’s a nightmare for ceiling-mounted infrared heaters. We got tired of seeing these units burn out way too soon, so we built our latest series to actually handle the mess.
The problem with quartz tubes
Here is the thing: quartz tubes are temperamental. When a drop of water or a spray of oil hits that scorching hot glass, it doesn’t just slide off. The thermal shock cracks the glass instantly. Once that seal is gone, the tungsten filament hits the air and pops. Just like that, your heater is a paperweight. To fix this, we added a specialized splash-proof housing. Think of it as a shield that nudges droplets away from the tube. It keeps the quartz dry, which keeps the heat flowing.
Sealing the weak spots
Most heaters don’t actually fail in the middle of the tube—they fail at the connection points. Moisture seeps into the terminals, causes a short, and kills the unit. We tackled this by using sealed gaskets and cabling that doesn’t care about moisture. By blocking out the mist and splashes, the electronics inside don’t corrode. It means you aren’t spending your weekends swapping out lamps every single season.
A fair trade-off
Now, let’s be honest. Putting a shield over a heating element means you lose a tiny bit of that direct heat. You might see a 5% drop in intensity compared to a “naked” tube. But in the real world? That’s a trade I’ll take every time. I’d much rather have 95% heat all winter than a dead heater because a pipe leaked or a foggy morning got the best of it.
Getting it up and running
Wiring these into your ceiling grid is straightforward. Since the housing handles the protection, you don’t have to waste time building your own custom boxes around them. Just a couple of tips: make sure your mounting brackets can handle the weight so they don’t sag over time. And every now and then, give the shields a quick wipe to clear off heavy dust. It keeps the airflow moving and the heat hitting where it should.
