
Keeping Your Class 100 Cleanroom Actually Clean
If you’re running a Class 100 cleanroom, you already know the nightmare of contamination. One tiny flake of material or a puff of outgassing from a heating element, and your whole batch is toast. Most standard heating lamps just aren’t built for this. They tend to flake or leak volatile organic compounds (VOCs) the second they hit peak temperature. It’s a massive headache. That’s why we stick with high-purity synthetic quartz for our IR lamps.
Why the quartz matters
Here is the deal: we use fused silica that’s pure enough to stop metal ions from migrating, even when you’re pushing high wattage. It doesn’t “smoke” or break down under thermal stress. You just get clean, radiative heat. No airborne particles, no mystery residue, and no ruined substrates. It just works.
More power, less bulk
Because this quartz can handle the heat, we can crank up the wattage without worrying about compromising your vacuum or the cleanroom’s integrity. Plus, by focusing the IR spectrum, you don’t need a massive, oversized array of heaters. It saves a lot of space on your floor. One heads-up, though. While the quartz is chemically tough, it hates being shaken. If your production line vibrates a lot,please use dampened mounts. If you don’t, those tubes will crack, and that’s a mess nobody wants to clean up.
Getting it installed
We made these lamps “drop-in” replacements. We know that every minute your cleanroom is down is money disappearing, so we kept the install simple. The seals are tight to stop any leaks at the connection points. And when you’re wiring it up, make sure the electrical fit is snug. You want to avoid arcing at all costs—arcing creates carbon deposits, and that’ll kill your contamination grade instantly. For those of you processing semiconductor wafers, these lamps give you that precise thermal ramp-up you need. It’s a stable heat source that leaves your substrate untouched. Just a final tip: check your cooling fans. Make sure they’re balanced. If they’re wobbling, the vibration will eat through your lamps way faster than they should.
